Bartók in Space and Time brengt een uitzonderlijke ontmoeting tussen architectuur en muziek, tussen ruimte en tijd. Het boek kijkt terug op een experimentele avond in Bozar, waar onder leiding van dirigent Gábor Káli het Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen Bartóks Muziek voor snaren, percussie en celesta (1937) uitvoerde, terwijl Robbrecht en Daem architecten deze klanken vertaalden in architecturale vormen. De bijzondere dialoog tussen beide disciplines wordt verbeeld en toegelicht met tekeningen, berekeningen, foto’s, inspiratiebronnen en notities, aangevuld met een diepgaande analyse door musicoloog Mark Delaere.

Sinds hun oprichting in 1975 bouwen Robbrecht en Daem architecten aan een internationaal geprezen oeuvre. Paul Robbrecht, Hilde Daem en Johannes Robbrecht zoeken steeds naar die ene bijzondere ruimte, die onvergetelijke plek. Hun architectuur is nooit louter object, maar steeds een dialoog – met gebruikers, met de omgeving, met de geschiedenis, met kunstenaars.
