"aan onze afgekloven botten kleeft de oorlog
nu, na meer dan tachtig jaar
duiken wij op om u te vertellen
dat onze verhalen
gelezen moeten worden
ze beschrijven geen geheimen
of sacrale symboliek
ze zijn als fragiele wezens
aan de rand van een afgrond
met hun voelsprieten tastten ze destijds de ruimte af
die ruimte omspant ook de tijd waarin u
(de lezer in de een en twintigste eeuw)
zich momenteel bevindt"
