Vivienne has no time to mourn the loss of her parents. Her only task is survival, together with her young brother, Oliver. But survival becomes impossible when they are dragged to an island from which there is no escape. An island stalked by dark shadows… and by a dark man, with a hook of gleaming silver. He belongs to the vastness of the sea, to the pull of the tides, to open skies scattered with stars. He is velvet and iron and ice. And the only one who can keep them alive.
