Tekst achterflap

This publication takes a contemporary look at Bernt Nyberg's biographical project on Sigurd Lewerentz, which presents the great Swedish architect from an unusual perspective in film, photography, and audio recordings.

Sigurd Lewerentz is generally considered the "silent architect": inscrutable, shy, and reluctant to reveal the motivations behind his work. The architect Bernt Nyberg presents us with a different perspective-that of an architect on site, in dialogue with the workers, the materials, and the unpredictabilities of a design in progress. Through the curious and experimental lens of a younger contemporary-an architect obsessed with film and working with the latest technology-Lewerentz's discourse is presented as practice-oriented rather than theoretical, as ardently interested in the consequences of building. Nyberg was Lewerentz's first biographer and intended to produce a documentary film and a book. His early death in 1978, however, put an end to these plans. This publication enters into a contemporary dialogue with his images and suggests approaches to interpretation and discussion.
